About me
Sofia Aragon is the Executive Director of the Washington Center for Nursing; a statewide non-profit organization advancing nursing leadership, diversity, and workforce development. She is also the former Mayor of the City of Burien in Washington State, USA.
Public policy and politics are her passion, with years of experience advocating to the WA State Legislature to assure workplace safety for registered nurses including assuring meal and rest breaks and limiting mandatory overtime. In addition, she advocated for increased quality health care in schools by representing the School Nurse Organization of WA. Representing Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners United of WA State, she worked to assure ARNPs could practice to the full extent of their license.
She also advocated for key health care issues to benefit all state residents including assuring full adoption of federal health reform provisions in her state, protecting funding for higher education and public health, banning toxics in the environment, promoting racial equity in legislation, and many other issues. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Washington, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Seattle University, and a Juris Doctor from Loyola University- Chicago School of Law.
