Pinay Talks: Extraordinary Voices: Using Tech to Solve Global Crises
In July 2020, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and moral reckoning with structural racism after the murder of George Floyd, I was selected to become the head of the Weitzman Institute, which made me the first Filipina and first person of color to oversee the Institute since its inception. My talk will highlight three examples of how I worked with my team to leverage technology during the global public health emergency including 1) Transitioning our fully in-person care to being fully remote via telehealth for over 150,000 patients in Connecticut (USA), 2) Combating misinformation about COVID-19 through free webinars for >25,000 healthcare professionals across all 50 U.S. states on how to continue to deliver care and keep their patients and themselves safe during the pandemic, and 3) recruiting and diversifying the workforce by leveraging remote work environment.
